Creating your print

I can't get my head around your editor screen!

Don’t worry, it might look complicated at first, but it’s actually very simple.

There are two main activities involved in customising a print: changing the text, and playing with the colours. We’ve written a simple guide for each:

I'm buying an unframed print but I'm getting a message saying it's unavailable

Check that you've selected the 'unframed' option (it should be the only one available, but you still need to click/tap on it).  Once you've done that, the 'add to cart' button should work.  If you're still having problems, please let us know!

Can I get my design printed on a… (t-shirt, mug… double-decker bus?)

We're working on that right now. Well, the smaller items. Not the buses just yet. If you're desperate for something like this right now, get in touch at hello@inkyprintworks.com and we might be able to help out as part of our product testing process.

What if I want something more ambitious?

A gigantic poster, for example, or a photo in the place of one of the colour blocks? We love a challenge. Drop us a line using the contact form below, and we’ll help wherever we can.

About our prints

How are your personalised paint charts made?

Every personalised print we create is made on-demand, completely tailored to your preferences.

We’ve engineered the ordering and production process to be as efficient and automated as possible — partly to keep costs and environmental impact low, and partly because we know the internet never sleeps. Your order details go straight to our printing plant, which produces, frames (if needed), and dispatches your personalised print quickly and professionally.

Are the materials you use sustainable?

Yes, with one exception. Our art prints are produced on FSC-certified paper, and our frames are made from responsibly sourced oak and ash. Our packaging is almost all recycled and recyclable cardboard.

The exception? Plexiglass, used in our framed prints. It’s stronger than traditional glass (helpful in transit!), but most plexiglass is still derived from fossil fuels. We’re actively looking into recycled and more sustainable alternatives.

What’s the difference between the papers you use?

We use different papers depending on the product:

  • Framed prints use a 200gsm premium semi-glossy paper, because we think it makes the colours of your print ‘pop’ better, and suits the subtly reflective finish given by the plexiglass layer.
  • Unframed art prints are all about texture. We use a premium 200gsm matte paper and giclée printing for a luxurious, non-shiny finish that feels soft to the touch and looks superb.

What’s a giclée print?

"Giclée" (say: zhee-clay) comes from the French for "to spray", and is the preferred choice for museum-quality prints that stand the test of time. The printing process uses high-end inkjet technology to produce stunning, vibrant artwork that makes the most of the colours you've chosen.

The printing process uses 12 ink colours, (rather than the usual four), special fade-resistant inks, and incredibly fine print nozzles for outstanding precision and detail.

What are the dimensions of the unframed art prints? 

A1 size is 841 x 594mm - ( 33.1 x 23.4 inches )

A2 size is 594 x 420mm - ( 23.4 x 16.5 inches )

A3 size is 420 x 297mm - ( 16.5 x 11.7 inches )

8 x 12" size is 203 x 305mm - (8 x 12 inches, unsurprisingly!)

6 x 8" size is 152 x 203mm - (yes, predictably that's 6 x 8 inches)

Ordering and delivery

Can I change my order once I've paid?  

Unfortunately not. Because we use a streamlined, automated process, it's very difficult to make changes once printing starts.

How long will my personalised print take to arrive?

See our full shipping policy, but briefly:

With standard free delivery:

  • Unframed art prints: 2–3 business days
  • Framed prints: 3–4 business days

With express delivery:

  • Unframed art prints: 1–3 business days
  • Framed prints: 3 business days

These estimates include printing, framing (if required), and dispatch. As the world can be an unpredictable place, estimated times may vary and are not guaranteed.

Do you offer express delivery?  

Yes we do! It costs £4–5 depending on the size, and you can select it at checkout. Just look for the drop-down option next to the delivery settings.

How are personalised prints packaged?

We use packaging that suits your print:

Unframed art prints 

  • Posters up to 8 x 12" size are shipped flat in a protective stiff cardboard mailing envelope 
  • Larger posters are shipped in tubes

Framed Prints

  • Framed prints are pre-packed with padded corners and protective film, and then packed in a box with strong edges to protect the frames. 

Do you ship internationally?

Not yet — we’re currently focused on UK orders. But international shipping is coming soon! Sign up to our emails and we’ll let you know when.

There's a problem with my print - what do I do?

If your print is damaged or faulty, or you have any other problem, we're here to help sort it out.  Just drop us a line at hello@inkyprintworks.com to get things started.  We’ll probably ask for more details of what's happened, and maybe a photo or two, so we can work out how best to put things right.   

My print hasn’t arrived - help!

You’ll get delivery updates and tracking info via email. These should include a tracking number, with a link that you can follow for more information about the delivery.

Can I return my personalised print?

Because our products are made to order, we generally don’t accept returns. But if something’s wrong, we’ll do what we can to help. See our full returns policy.

Do you offer prints for businesses?

We’re delighted to support corporate customers, and our prints make fantastic publicity materials for internal or external projects, a fun focus for team-building, or even, um, motivational posters (are they still a thing?).

Do you offer bulk discounts?

Generally, no — each print is individually produced. But if you're ordering 10 or more of the same personalised print, we can offer a significantly reduced prices. Just ask!

Who runs InkyPrintworks?

That’ll be me — James. Find out more on the About Us page.

InkyPrintworks is a trading name of PeopleDataStrategy Ltd. You can probably see why we didn’t use that mouthful as the brand name though!

Where are you located?

We’re based near Richmond-upon-Thames, and use a print partner with 17 separate UK locations to minimise delivery miles. We plan to use a similar localised model for international deliveries once available.
